Facility Coder (Inpatient and Outpatient responsibilities) - REMOTE

Medkoder, LLC is looking for an experienced Remote Facility Coder who will be responsible for accurately assigning codes to diagnoses and procedures for all inpatient cases ranging from moderate to high complexity using the current version of ICD-CM Classification for Hospitals to arrive at the most appropriate DRG assignment. This coder will ideally be able to do both inpatient and outpatient coding responsibilities. As work load and requirements will change over the life of you employment here. 

Essential Job Functions:

Initial responsibilities will be with inpatient coding. Determine the correct principal diagnosis, identify and assign co-morbidities and complications, major co-morbidities and complications, secondary diagnoses, present on admission indicators, HAC (Hospital Acquired conditions), principal procedure codes and secondary procedure codes.
Selects the appropriate DRG and Discharge Disposition code.
Queries physicians appropriately when documentation is not clear or straightforward and sends to HIM Operations for follow-up.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Successful completion of at least one AHIMA certified program with achievement of the correlating professional credential (RHIT, CCS, etc); active and in good standing, preferably a combination of two or more credentials.  A CCS certification is required for this position. The CCA is not accepted.

High School diploma required.
Associates or BS degree preferred.
Minimum of three years of inpatient (recent hands-on production) coding experience in an acute care hospital. Candidates with Trauma and Teaching Hospital experience highly preferred.
ICD-10 Proficiency Certification required
